For my budget, what should I add to the basic prices above? Maybe none, maybe a lot. For example, add for: 2 sided signs or Many Colors, Extra wording, Special color matches, Full Color, Complex logos, Complex Shading or outlining, Complex shapes or contour cuts, Dimensional letters or Logos, Framing, Finishing, Permits, Trip charges, Shipping, Removing, Repairing, Installation, Hardware, lots of design time, set-ups and other items if applicable. In general, if an economy sign is 100%, multiply standard signs times 2 and deluxe or premium signs times 3 or 4.
If I were buying a custom sign I would:
1.- get an
estimate from a trusted, known sign company
2.- get an estimate off the Web
3.- get another estimate from a large sign company
4.- get an estimate from a
small sign company.
Sometimes estimates can vary widely for a number of reasons.
It's important to specify ,as best as you can, exactly what you want so that all
bidders will have the same specs to price from. You know, the "apples to
apples, not apples to oranges" thing. Signs, like cars, can be all over the
map in price. Most will get you there, but better signs have impact and will last
longer. Usually you get what you pay for. An economy sign for your business,
2' x 4' on white plastic can be as little as $40.00 or as
much as $800.00 in deluxe, dimensional relief. It all depends on the amount of time and material,
prestige or impact, and lifespan you want
out of your sign.
Happy hunting, and remember this is supposed to be a fun and
productive experience!! Your new sign will make you money, inform or impress,
or simply keep you out of trouble, depending on what kind of a sign
you need. The good news, of course, is you pay for it once and it will
work for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for years to come.
